The Arguables

Political campaigns are finding new lows everyday

What even is going on? The prime minister of the world’s largest ‘democracy’ is disparaging of people of certain religious sects. How does this affect the image of our nation across the globe? It is one thing to talk about religious problems in court, debates and forums, but to speak ill about a religion, as a part of your campaign to gain votes, just to cross 400 seats is not morally correct. In a polyarchy it is more important to be favored by the masses.

On the other side of the spectrum, the left wing leaders are making atrocious remarks such as people from certain parts of our nation look similar to the people of China. This is what it has come to, These are supposed to be the educated leaders of our nation. But here I also feel the need to highlight that INC distanced themselves from the leader who made these remarks rather than making excuses for it, quite unlike the aforementioned case.

The leaders highlight the democratic ideals of free speech and right to movement when questioned about their comments on religion and beliefs. Pretty sure they have the same take when an article is written or a documentary is made criticizing them, right? In the end we are the world’s largest democracy. The leaders are here to serve it, not rule it.
