The Arguables

Do private firms need to give in to the general crowds boycott calls

With the recent Israel – Hamas war waging in the middle east, people decided to call out
Multinational Companies based in Israel, implying that they are showing support for terrorism. I have no interest in the political or geopolitical outlook of the situation, innocents are losing their lives on both the sides while the elites are in a tug of war for power.

Boycotting Starbucks does not help the people losing their lives neither does it help stop the war. Starbucks does not fund Hamas or the Israeli government, they make money based on the service they provide. When the general crowd decide to ditch the business or boycott it, it might hurt the business in the short term and create a short term disturbance in its stock price again only hurting the retail investors who had nothing to do with the war. Rioting in the streets near outlets of such brands just disturbs the respective customer and employees trying to go about their day.

I am trying to maintain neutrality, but when the crowd see’s such behaviour demonstrated by Palestine supporters, it lures the general crowd to hate the group that disturbs them. This does no justice to the Palestinians losing their lives on a daily basis. I agree their voices should be heard but this is more of a diplomatic situation and as negative as it sounds a war that is funded and controlled by people of power, who would not be bothered by the boycott calls.

A private company should be least bothered by riots, boycott calls and its purpose is to provide the service and the level of service it promised to provide to its customers. Hurling at the thousands of employees is no way to seek justice for the innocents. I actually want to have a discussion on it without making it ugly like it does on Twitter.
